Nicotine Replacement Therapy: A Lie |
There is a lie floating around out there that says that you can quit nicotine by taking nicotine. Nothing could be further from the truth. You wouldn't give an alcoholic wine instead of whiskey, would you? Of course not, it makes no sense whatsoever and neither does the use of nicotine replacement products. Here's the deal... If you use the information to just up and quit, your suffering will be mostly over in about a week. If you use nicotine replacement products, you'll stretch that out for months or maybe even indefinitely. I think the patch is especially insidious because it gives you a low does of nicotine 24 hours a day, hell, cigarettes don't even do that. Now before you email me telling me about your cousin Vinnie who used nicotine gum and quit, yes, some people do quit after using these products. Those people, however, were finally ready to quit and even though they don't know it, they still went cold turkey. They just tricked themselves into believing that they could wean themselves off an addictive chemical but of course that isn't really true but hey, whatever works, right? You might be thinking of using these products to help just take the edge off your nicotine fits. Hey, I know what that is like - but - once you read our page entitled How to Beat Nicotine Fits then you'll understand that getting through them isn't so bad but of course the pharmaceutical companies don't want you to know that. Here's another dirty little secret: These products give you nicotine but not quite enough to curb a nic fit, at least not for me. This means that instead of having nic fits that come and go, you get them all day long because you are getting a low dose of nicotine all day long. For me this was far worse than not getting any nicotine at all. So please - don't use this garbage. You'll only prolong your suffering and you'll end up going cold turkey anyway. |
